Genesis Sedan Concept Hints at Coming Greatness found on https://robertnmaker.wordpress.com/2016/03/28/genesis-sedan-concept-hints-at-coming-greatness/

genesis front

The front-end looks like the face of a Cabbage Patch Kid. The rest of the Genesis, though, is a beautifully compelling car that people should genuinely desire. It’s dazzling, even with those squished cheeks and broad smile.

The design direction of Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury brand, debuted last week in New York and seems to have squashed any rumors that the brand’s cars would be nothing more than rebadged Hyundais.

If the production versions of the coming Genesis G70, G80, and G90 look anything like this, we can be sure that affluent young buyers will take notice, while stoking some serious fire behind Lexus and the Germans to catch up.

Yes, Genesis could be the real deal.

Car and Driver said,

Lexus could learn a thing or two from the Genesis concept’s hexagonal grille that’s distinctive without being garish, while the rear haunches bulge ever so slightly to emphasize the car’s rear-wheel-drive proportions. For a concept car, it’s refreshingly short on ridiculous design details, although the large wheels, extravagant lighting and front fender grilles probably will be toned down for production.

It’s not just the exterior design of the car that’s appealing, it’s the entire demeanor that threatens to flip the luxury car market on its head. The Genesis look is more relaxed than uptight Germans and is more elegant than the comparably plain competition. The tapered rear end would look at home on any high-end British sports car and the interior is an exercise in futuristic design.

Most of the interior won’t make it into the production cars, but it shows that Hyundai is serious about leaving behind the stigma of its past and establishing Genesis as the luxury brand of the future.

The powertrain is where the car might fail to capture some true enthusiasts. A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder combines with an electric motor to make 242-hp, so it’ll never outperform its German brethren. It will, however, appeal to an audience who values tech-laden comfort and style over fast 0-60 times.

Would you drive the new Genesis concept?
