Soon a $37,000, 200-mile electric vehicle will arrive on the market. The car could be the one that finally ushers in the era of the affordable, high-range, mass-produced electric car.
This car is well along in its development and will be available to purchase in the coming year.
For this car, designers made aerodynamics a top priority so it slips effortlessly through the air. When in motion, wind flows around the vehicle from the headlamps to the rear wheels. The aluminum body and smooth proportions cut down on weight and drag to increase both range and acceleration. Plus, the bottom of the car is completely flat since there aren’t any exhaust bits that need to be kept cool.
Yes, this car could be a game changer.
Oh, and Tesla is building one too.
The Chevy Bolt gave designers a chance to build a new car from the ground up and it seems like they’ve come up with a winner. To make things even better for Chevrolet, the Bolt will beat the similarly-spec’d, and priced, Tesla Model 3 to market.
Tesla plans on unveiling the Model 3 this March for a release sometime in 2017, but the two cars will be similar only in price and range.
Tesla has made it very clear that the Model 3 will be positioned as an entry-level luxury sedan. The Bolt, on the other hand, is obviously not a luxury car.
The Bolt will be priced at the top of the compact car market, while the Model 3 will be at the low-end of the luxury sedan market. Even though these cars will be close in price, they will appeal to different markets and won’t compete directly against one another.
The Model 3, assuming it comes in near the $35,000 price Tesla has promised, might even offer more value for the money, but likely won’t have the same cargo capacity as the Bolt.
Both cars have equal shots at success and both will work together toward moving the mass-market electric car closer to mainstream adaption.
Which would suit your tastes better, the Chevy Bolt or the Tesla Model 3?
